About New March

New March launched in 2021 in response to growing demand from a diversity of organizations seeking knowledgeable, technical and strategic support in navigating complex forest sustainability and climate issues. New March is a woman-owned, client-focused practice that specializes in understanding broader context, evaluating impacts and supporting innovative, strategic solutions.

Sarah Crow, CEO

A recognized thought leader on forests, sustainability and technical strategy, Sarah is an analytical and strategic thinker that loves to solve problems and drive positive impacts for clients.

With an extensive network and proven ability to craft innovative solutions, Sarah is a sought after speaker, facilitator and expert on forest certification, sustainability strategy, deforestation, risk assessment, forest products and feedstocks, bioenergy, smallholders, conservation policy, and stakeholder engagement.

She has served on technical committees and governance bodies at the national and global levels. Before launching New March, she spent 10 years at the American Forest Foundation (AFF), where she held senior roles including leadership of American Tree Farm System (ATFS) and development of AFF’s portfolio of sustainability solutions.

A former Fulbright Scholar to Ukraine, Sarah earned a BS in Forestry at the University of Montana and an MS in Natural Resources at the University of Vermont.

Eric Werner, Forest Certification Specialist

As part of the New March team, Eric guides and supports forest product companies in developing and maintaining Chain of Custody programs certified to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) standards. He has extensive experience in a diverse array of forest product sectors and programs, including single site, multisite, and triple Chain of Custody. Eric also provides support for the SFI Fiber Sourcing and FSC Controlled Wood requirements and regularly reviews/updates company Due Diligence Systems and Risk Assessments associated with the FSC, SFI and PEFC standards. Eric also supports the New March Team with Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) certification programs, Renewable Energy Directive (REDIII) and European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) programs. 

Prior to joining the New March, Eric worked for a pulp and paper company in North Carolina where he managed the Title V Air Compliance Program, worked on sustainability systems, and co-managed a triple Chain of Custody program overseeing a portfolio of domestic mills and converting facilities. Eric has comprehensive knowledge of material tracking/accounting systems, trademark requirements, Chain of Custody claims, and strategic procurement planning to help meet customer demands for certified material.

Eric graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering.
