New March launched in 2021 in response to growing demand from a diversity of organizations seeking knowledgeable, technical and strategic support in navigating complex forest sustainability and climate issues. New March is a woman-owned, client-focused practice that specializes in understanding broader context, evaluating impacts and supporting innovative, strategic solutions.

Sarah Crow, Principal

A recognized thought leader on forests, sustainability and technical strategy, Sarah is an analytical and strategic thinker that loves to solve problems and drive positive impacts.

With an extensive network and proven ability to craft innovative solutions and programs, Sarah builds strategies from the ground to the C-suite, throughout supply chains and across sectors and geographies. She is a sought after speaker, facilitator and expert on forest certification, sustainability strategy, risk assessment, forest products and feedstocks, smallholders, conservation policy, and stakeholder engagement.

Sarah has been involved with pellet and biomass production in the US for the last decade; led the development of risk assessments for biomass sourcing; and is currently leading the development of the first Regional Risk Assessment (RRA) for the US Southeast.

She has served on several technical committees and governance bodies at the national and global levels. This includes Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) working groups on group forest management and smallholder engagement, as well as serving as Chair of the Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) International Stakeholder Advisory Group. In 2022, Sarah was named a delegate for the inaugural Women’s Forest Congress, under the theme of Women as Catlysts for Change.

Sarah built a career at the intersection of forests and sustainability, developing creative tools and approaches. Before launching New March, Sarah spent 10 years at the American Forest Foundation (AFF), where she held senior roles including leadership of American Tree Farm System (ATFS) and development of AFF’s portfolio of sustainability solutions.

A former Fulbright Scholar to Ukraine, Sarah earned a BS in Forestry at the University of Montana and an MS in Natural Resources at the University of Vermont.
