A recognized thought leader on forests, sustainability and technical strategy, Sarah is an analytical and strategic thinker that loves to solve problems and drive positive impacts for clients.
With an extensive network and proven ability to craft innovative solutions, Sarah is a sought after speaker, facilitator and expert on forest certification, sustainability strategy, deforestation, risk assessment, forest products and feedstocks, bioenergy, smallholders, conservation policy, and stakeholder engagement.
She has served on technical committees and governance bodies at the national and global levels. Before launching New March, she spent 10 years at the American Forest Foundation (AFF), where she held senior roles including leadership of American Tree Farm System (ATFS) and development of AFF’s portfolio of sustainability solutions.
A former Fulbright Scholar to Ukraine, Sarah earned a BS in Forestry at the University of Montana and an MS in Natural Resources at the University of Vermont.

Eric Werner
As part of the New March team, Eric guides and supports forest product companies in developing and maintaining certification programs. He has extensive experience in a diverse array of forest product sectors and programs, including single site, multisite, and triple Chain of Custody. Prior to joining the New March, Eric worked for a pulp and paper company in North Carolina where he managed the Title V Air Compliance Program, worked on sustainability systems, and co-managed a triple Chain of Custody program overseeing a portfolio of domestic mills and converting facilities. Eric has comprehensive knowledge of material tracking/accounting systems, trademark requirements, Chain of Custody claims, and strategic procurement planning to help meet customer demands for certified material. Eric graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering.

Jerry Greenberg
Executive Assistant
Jerry spent more than three decades in non-profit conservation work. Before retiring he worked as Senior Vice President for Conservation for the American Forest Foundation where he led the organization’s efforts to help family forest owners manage their lands to protect water, wildlife habitat, and other ecological values. Prior to joining the American Forest Foundation, he worked for The Wilderness Society where he directed wilderness and other land protection campaigns. Jerry earned his forestry degree from Duke University and worked early in his career for the US Forest Service in New Mexico and for IT&T Rayonnier in Georgia. He was also a radio reporter in Los Angeles, California, covering the environment and politics for the Associated Press and National Public Radio. Jerry lives in Madison, Wisconsin, with his wife, Diana.
Lauren Parnell Marino
As Operations Manager for New March Strategies, Diana brings a wealth of HR, office administrator, and bookkeeping skills. Diana graduated from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in botanical illustration. In addition to working in the banking industry and as a senior executive for a trade association, she most recently spearheaded the planning, launch, and business management of a family-owned retail quilting business, which ten years later has grown into the premier quilt shop in southern Wisconsin. With this considerable background, Diana provides New March with the support, tools, and guidance to ensure New March always provides the excellent service our clients have come to expect. Diana lives with her husband in Madison, Wisconsin, and enjoys hiking, biking, birding, and quiltmaking.
Program Manager
Lauren joins the New March team with previous experience in social science research and international development program management. She holds a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Development Studies, and has experience working with the World Bank’s Gender Innovation Lab, the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s African Studies Program, and Ashoka Changemakers. Lauren has received a number of academic awards, including a US Student Fulbright which funded her dissertation fieldwork in Uganda, and a US-Ireland Alliance Scholarship which funded her education at the University of Galway, where she earned an MA in Gender, Globalization, and Human Rights. Lauren lives in Madison, Wisconsin with her two small children, spouse, and cat.
